MS4000-S VOC Gas Analyzer

The MS4000-S is a VOC / Hydrocarbon Concentration Analyzer designed for measuring gases in drains and outflows from industrial facilities. The instrument senses gases or volatiles providing a measurement system with very low maintenance requirements. Taking a measurement every 2 seconds, the MS4000-S is accurate from less than 1 ppm to 3,000 ppm concentrations, dependent upon the target gas, and its wide dynamic range allows it to be used in a wide variety of environments.

A user programmable Alert threshold can be set, connecting to relay outputs and indicators on the front panel. This allows connection to other peripheral equipment such as isolation valves, pumps, samplers or audio-visual alarms. A 4–20 mA output is available for connection to a PLC or SCADA system.

Applications

  • Monitoring of VOCs in gas streams
  • Monitoring of drains and effluent discharges
  • Detection of explosive gases
  • Oil and Fuel Leak Detection
  • Odor Control
  • Land Remediation

Benefits

  • Low operating and maintenance costs
  • High reliability
  • Field proven technology

Industrial effluent monitoring

The MS4000-S VOC gas analyzer is used to monitor the industrial effluent from factories and business premises to ensure that they are complying with environmental regulations.

Discharge of VOCs into wastewater is an endemic problem in chemical processing and other industrial processes.

For this reason, many industrial facilities have purification plants to remove the bulk of these contaminants from the water before it’s discharged.

However spills can overrun the treatment capacity and lead to illegal discharges, pollution, fines and PR disasters.

When this happens, it is likely that the regulatory authorities will ask for expensive on-line TOC analysers to be installed, which require a lot of reagents and are an additional cost.

By installing an MS4000-S VOC analyser at the effluent, you can be notified as soon as the values start to increase and take appropriate actions, avoiding all the problems associated with unexpected pollution events.

Sewage System Monitoring

Hydrocarbons in sewage lines pose a threat to maintenance personnel and could potentially contaminate the sludge in a sewage treatment plant.

Sludge might become contaminated with hydrocarbons as the result of defective oil separators, unintentional spills or even dumping.

Once sludge contains hydrocarbons it has to be treated as chemical waste rather than fertilizer. This can significantly increase the price of disposal.

By using the MS4000-S VOC Gas analyzer, we can detect peak in the concentrations of VOCs in the sewage system and take appropriate actions, thus optimizing the treatment process

What does the MS4000-S VOC Gas Analyzer actually measure?
The MS4000-S measures the concentration VOC gas measured against a target gas standard (usually toluene)
How often does the instrument provide a reading?
The instrument provides a reading via the 4-20 mA output continuously.
What is the reported value?
The reported value is Total VOCs, in ppm, is in the range from 0 to 3000 ppm
What is the principle of operation
The system samples the air above the effluent/sewage continuously; this air is then passed through the sensor which reacts with VOCs and measures their concentration. The concentration is then reported via the analogue output.
How is the MS4000-S calibrated?
The instrument is factory calibrated against toluene.
What are common target gases?
Petroleum Gas, Methane, Iso Butane, Kerosene, Ethanol, Diesel, Iso-butylene, Toluene, Acetone, Xylene, Heptane, Benzene, Methanol Mercaptan
What is the required maintenance? Is it expensive?
The instrument requires a service every 6 months to replace some low cost components such as activated carbon filters and to make sure that there are no air leaks.
What is the warranty?
Every instrument comes with 1 year warranty from the shipment date
How does the MS4000-S alert the user to high concentrations of gas?
The MS4000-S incorporates a relay which is switched at a user definable threshold. This can be hardwired to valves/pumps and so on to stop processes very quickly. Alternatively the users SCADA system can also be used.
